Google Analytics (GA):
Overview and Key Features
Google Analytics (GA) is a web analytics platform provided by Google that tracks, measures, and reports on website and app activity. By collecting data on user interactions—such as sessions, page views, and engagement—GA helps businesses understand user behavior, optimize marketing strategies, enhance user experience, and evaluate return on investment (ROI). This is made possible through a tracking code installed on websites or integrated into apps.
Key Aspects of Google Analytics (GA4)
1. Event-Based Tracking
GA4, the latest version of Google Analytics, shifts from traditional session-based tracking to an event-driven model. This approach captures detailed user interactions (events) across both web and app platforms, offering a more complete view of the customer journey.
2. Core Metrics Tracked
GA4 monitors essential user behavior metrics, including:
• Page views
• Traffic sources (e.g., search engines, social media, paid ads)
• Conversion rates
• Session duration
• User engagement patterns
These insights help businesses understand how users navigate and interact with their digital properties.
3. Enhanced Measurement
GA4 includes automatic tracking for common interactions—without requiring additional code. These include:
• Page views
• Scroll depth
• Outbound link clicks
• On-site search queries
• Video engagement
This makes setup easier and ensures more consistent data collection.
4. Data-Driven Insights
Leveraging Google’s machine learning capabilities, GA4 provides predictive analytics such as:
• Churn probability
• Purchase likelihood
• Potential revenue
These insights help businesses anticipate user behavior and make proactive decisions.
5. Seamless Integration
GA4 integrates smoothly with other Google tools, including:
• Google Ads
• Google Search Console
• BigQuery
This allows marketers to analyze campaign performance, optimize ad spend, and connect analytics data with broader business intelligence workflows.
